Overnight success, years in the making.
That’s a bit of how I feel about today’s news: Sitecore has acquired Scrunch, a leading experience platform for AI agents – and a company Mayfield backed at inception.
At Mayfield, we are people-first investors. When I first joined Mayfield, Chris Andrew and Robert MacCloy were at the top of my shortlist of founders I hoped to partner with someday. As a founding team, they are as strong as it gets: deeply complementary skill sets, a long-term commitment to building something meaningful, a growth mindset, a desire to partner closely, and, most importantly, great people.
The backstory: I first tried to recruit Scrunch CEO Chris nearly two decades ago, when I was the CEO of Gigya. He said no. More than once. He finally said yes four years ago, when we led Scrunch’s seed round and got to partner with him and Robert.
The company celebrating today is not the one we first funded. Chris and Robert’s persistence, conviction, and experience built the foundation for what Scrunch became – the leading agentic experience platform.
For me, today is a reminder that early-stage investing is about people. Markets change. People are constant. AI is a mega wave creating enormous opportunity – but it was Chris, Robert and the team whose hard work and insight turned it into a great outcome.
Congratulations to Chris, Robert, and the entire Scrunch team.
