October 17, 2019 –
There’s a pervasive myth that there simply aren’t many female founders, especially in the enterprise sector. However, 20% of the new unicorn companies created in the first half of this year were founded by women, and 50% of them addressed the enterprise segment (e.g. Confluent, Vlocity, Airwallex, Horizon Robotics and Coursera).* Women are clearly building iconic B2B companies, and are driving meaningful results.
However, the gender gap in startup funding does not reflect that. That’s why I’m so proud to announce that Mayfield, M12 and Pivotal Ventures are launching the second annual global B2B-focused Female Founders Competition to find and fund the best women entrepreneurs. Last year, a few incredible women and I launched the competition with M12, Microsoft’s Venture Fund, and were amazed by the caliber of women founders we uncovered through it. This year, I’m delighted to see our three firms coming together to create change, and I’m personally looking forward to meeting another set of inspiring female founders.
As a firm with a storied 50-year history of People-First investing, we at Mayfield plan to share our playbook with competition winners on how to accelerate their journey to create iconic companies.
So if you’re a female founder building a company in enterprise software or deep technology, please apply here now! We want to hear from you – your inspirations, your story and your vision.
Let’s make some much needed change together and level the playing field for women entrepreneurs all over the world!
