Mobile Office Software Provider Quickoffice Raises $7M

Quickoffice Inc., which provides office document software for smartphones, has raised $7 million in a round of financing led by Mayfield Fund.

Access Industries, Advantage Capital Partners, Shepherd Ventures and Shea Ventures also contributed to the round. Advantage Capital Partners, Shepherd Ventures and Mayfield invested $18.5 million in the company's first round of instutitional funding, which closed in January 2006. Mayfield kicked off that round with an initial $7 million investment in May 2005.

The company has raised a total $26 million to date.

Quickoffice said in a press release that it will use the latest round to "further its core product line and to increase distribution."

In other news, Quickoffice announced that former PalmSource Inc. Chief Executive Patrick McVeigh has joined its board. McVeigh also previously served as the chief executive of Aliph Corp., a developer of audio and speech technology for mobile phones.
