Education company Centum Learning Ltd. has raised an $8.7 million round of funding from Mayfield India Fund.
Centum Learning has set up more than 130 learning centers in 90 cities across India to bridge the gap between what is taught in schools and what is required for employment in various industries, the company said. Curriculum is geared toward creating success in the service sector.
Programs range from a masters in business administration to a certificate in telecom sales and services.
Mayfield Managing Director Navin Chaddha said the firm was attracted to India's growing market for education.
"You have 300 million people who want to spend money on entertainment, education and healthcare," Chaddha said. "The market is huge."
New Delhi-based Centum is a division of Bharti Enterprises, an Indian business group with interests in telecom, retail, manufacturing, agriculture and financial services.
