Brian Barnum, former president of the online division of Yellow Pages publisher R.H. Donnelley Corp., has joined Mayfield Fund as an entrepreneur in residence.

Barnum was also chief operating officer and chief financial officer at Business.com before that company was acquired by R.H. Donnelley.

"Brian is one of the top executives in the Internet space as it relates to local and small businesses," Mayfield Managing Director Navin Chaddha said.

Barnum will be based in Los Angeles and will examine opportunities that deviate from the local advertising model that has previously existed for small businesses. "I'll look at how else a small business can leverage the Internet to improve business," he said.

Mayfield has an active EIR program. In January the firm hired Sean Moriarty, former chief executive of Ticketmaster Entertainment Inc., and Rajeev Chawla, former CEO of NeoPath Networks Inc. as EIRs. Moriarty will evaluate companies in consumer, e-commerce and new mobile applications, while Chawla will evaluate opportunities in the cloud computing and storage space.

Mayfield, based in Menlo Park, Calif., closed its 13th fund at its $395 million cap in September 2008.
